Ever intriguing
Stories of forbidden past
Voiced in hushed tones
This Haiku is inspired by the pictures of the temples at Khajuraho. What intrigues me is that the temples speak of such open intimacy of those times and yet it is a taboo to have open conversations in modern times.
A Haiku is a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven, and five; traditionally evoking images of the natural world

I think the problem is not open conversations about intimacy, but intimacy in public that makes people uncomfortable.
Hi Vishal, happy to have you over on Drishti…
I wish it was that way Vishal… alas… people are just too prudish… I posted an article from Drishti (written on The Act of Kissing) on one of the FB groups – the article had nothing crude, vulgar or lewd… it was a well researched piece on the subject… and I was shocked at the reactions I got from people in that group who even threatened to throw me out of there… as if I posted porn… I stopped posting articles in that group because obviously it wasn’t worth sharing good stuff with such a group of folks… who perhaps were even reproducing without being intimate!!
Anyways, I hope I have been able to get my point across to you… 🙂
Cheers buddy and do keep visiting us… happy to get your comment 🙂
It sucks when people think of themselves as moral police and everyone else as bigots. It won’t be surprising if the small-minded people who tried to demean your post themselves indulge in porn and infidelity. By the way, I really liked that post… it became quite popular… though I didn’t comment 🙂
Thanks for the warm welcome Archana 🙂
Comment or no comment, as long as you liked reading it and it brought a smile to your face, I think it was a job well done 🙂 Btw, that was written by my husband Desh… all these researched pieces on off-beat topics are totally his brain child… 🙂
btw – those people even told me that I was posting someone else’s vulgar article… and said, “consider this as the first strike… you have two more to go”… like I would lose my life if they threw me out of that group… anyway – I politely said that it was written by my husband and we write jointly on Drishti… and I officially share the pieces and asked them to fish off even more politely, as I didn’t need them or their views… ROFL!!!! So the porn-watching moral police can take a walk and enjoy it too!!! 🙂
Thanks Vishal… 🙂
wonderful… 🙂
Thank you so much for stopping by Apurva 🙂
Forbidden indeed…
Hello Siddhartha, welcome to Drishti… appreciate your comment 🙂 thank you… 🙂
Very valid point Archana. Why r we so much conscious in even talking about this!! And your Haiku…awesome!! Superb!!
Hey Tina, thank you so much 🙂
PS – let’s do a survey on your question 😉 perhaps we may get some answers… 🙂
Thought provoking and intriguing!
Hi Celestine… thank you so much for stopping by… happy you liked the Haiku 🙂
Makes me wonder what they would say if they could talk!
That’s what Kamasutra is for – guide to these sculptors 😀 It ain’t as if they created something and left you in the lurch.. they also provided the “Dummies Guide” to the whole process, if you will. 🙂
Err, might I borrow your copy Mr. Kapoor? 😉
Do YOU need one?! I thought you were writing one yourself 😉
Well for now I do… the current version and you would be inspiration enough to write my version, ain’t it… my dear dear Mr. Kapoor? 😉
LOL… you still have a qs? 😛
On the contrary I don’t… was it really a Q? Think about it dear one… and if you need some stimulus to help you think, let me know!!! 🙂
PS – perhaps a hot cup of tea??? 🙂
Well – that they don’t talk openly about things that must be discussed leads to a lot of crimes against women which are heinous… unfortunately…
Thanks for stopping by dearie 🙂
do you come here often?…..opie
Hello Opie… thanks for stopping by… but the right question is – does she ever leave this place, isn’t it an amazing site… why would anyone want to leave it? 😉 Cheers and have a good one…
One day I will visit this place and will keep the Haiku in mind 🙂
You should Teny… ain’t it amazing? :-p
It seems so from this long distance 😀
LOL… visit it and make the ‘seems’ into ‘it is’ 🙂
I am hoping for the same 😀

Khajuraho is amazing, I’ve visited it twice 🙂
Loved the haiku, dear…
It’s as good as my home town… I had to fly in there to reach my village which was a hours journey from Khajuraho – have spent s lot of my vacations there 🙂
Thanks dearie 🙂
Ah! I went there when I was kid.. Beautiful temples but some of their (Ahem! Ahem!) almost gave me shock.. Never went again.. Lol.. May be I visit again in future & I love the way they narrate story in night show 🙂
Oh they are still beautiful Anjali… unfortunately, I haven’t visited recently… lost of the time I went there, even I was a kid… and didn’t really understand much.. hopefully someday I will visit again 🙂
Good one
Thank you CT 🙂
Nice haiku.
Interestingly only 10% of the carvings are sexual or erotic, rest 90% of the art work at the temple is about daily life and symbolic values in ancient Indian culture.
🙂
Yes Aniruddha… and I love each one of them… it’s all so beautifully done 🙂
Thanks buddy! 🙂
Never have been to this place , thanks for sharing.
It’s a must see Mahesh… you must visit 🙂

Intriguing indeed. Nice haiku.
Thank you Somali 🙂
well that is basically we are hypocrite people .. 🙂
a lovely haiku though speaks a lot of what we are .. something to think about .. on a tangent the ban on porn what will the govt do to this “ART” form .. had the ban gone through
Exactly Bikram! and that is sad…
Well, on the ban.. I have other thoughts… 🙂 but god forbid the day the people in power start banning our heritage… I shudder to think what might happen then!
Thank you for the appreciation buddy… it’s a pleasure seeing you on Drishti 🙂
Have not been to the temple yet! And I so agree with your sentiments!
You should go there Mridula, it’s worth a visit or two 🙂
Thank you… and I finally managed to post comments on your awesome blog 😉
Intriguing indeed.
I haven’t been to Khajuraho. I would love to see this place I’ve heard so much about. I hope these temple sculptures have a long, long life.

A great haiku on this subject.
Thanks Purba 🙂
Khajuraho , there are so many memories in my mind of year 2000 when we visited there with my friends of my Engineering College and did not pay 2days payments to the govt hotel. These pictures are rare and have a lot of history . Haikyu is very suitable to the picture Archana Ji !!
hahaha, now am sure you won’t ever forget that Yogiji…
Thank you for the appreciation 🙂
Perfect word Archana – Hushed tones indeed 🙂
