The quintessential piece, the dream dress of every woman’s wardrobe, the talk of the town – the ‘little black dress’ was an elusive attire for me. It always looked so good on other women and I always wondered how it would look on me. Rather how I would look in it. And to think of it, late realization but a very true one – just like the beautiful Indian saree that cannot go wrong on any woman, irrespective of age, height, color; so is the same with the powerful and sexy little black dress. The little black dress dates back to the early 1900s and was intended to be a simple and short black dress that was affordable, accessible and long-lasting. An ageless, timeless piece, the beauty and the universality of the little black dress re-christened it as the popular LBD.
The rules of fashion deem it fit to say that the glorious little black dress is considered an absolute essential in every woman’s wardrobe. I swear by that rule too, not because I follow or believe every single fashion rule. In fact I am far from it. However, I do believe that a simple and elegant black dress is an absolute necessity. I am a believer of versatile fashion and an ardent collector of versatile pieces. Those that do not burn the pockets all the time (for want of new clothes each time), and those that can be dressed up or down depending upon the occasion. I usually wear very few accessories with my LBD. And I prefer to dress it up with stunning shoes of a different color instead, to make it stand out. That helps me to add a completely different glow and touch to the outfit. For a business meeting I would team it up with a jacket and stilettos. For an evening out or a formal event, I prefer doing it up with more accessories – jewelry and perhaps a bag or a clutch. At other times. I just keep it the way it is meant to be – simple, elegant and black. The way I have styled it in my pictures below.
This is a beautiful black dress with statement sleeves from White House Black Market, and I am wearing a black and white pearl neck piece to show off the deep neck. I love dresses with bold necks and you will see that in future Black stockings are the love of my life and I would even wear them while asleep if my husband would allow it 🙂 Simple black wedges complete the look here!
I wanted to add a touch of color to the outfit as a variation, and wore red wedges instead of black. Love the way it transforms the whole look and makes it more stunning!
